Happy Easter!

Happy Easter, friends!
Long time no see; things have been the usual busy around here! I thought I'd quickly share these pictures with you...

I had so much fun making these cute Cadbury Creme Easter Eggs; they have a cream cheese filling with a lemon curd yolk, and everyone is very patiently anticipating the arrival of dessert tonight! Thanks to Grace for sharing the wonderful recipe.
I pray you all have a very blessed and happy Easter as we remember what our Lord has done for us!

Blessings,
Alice x

trust in the Lord... and happy new year!

Welcome to 2013!
I can't believe a whole new year has turned up already -- a whole, fresh new year... and who knows what it might hold?
Well, Jesus knows! In fact, He has it all planned out...

***

I had the pleasure of attending a dear friend's 16th birthday party up the coast on Sunday night.
As soon as I received the invitation my mind started ticking away as to what I could make for a birthday present, so after much thought and designing I decided upon this Journal Cover!
"...Trust in the Lord with all your heart..."

The theme was 'come dressed up as a movie character' so I went as Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games books. (Indeed, she's actually a book character... but oh well.) I only had two days notice, and thanks to my brother's boots and belts and bow & arrows (& quiver)... I think I pulled it off!

Happy, happy New Year, friends!
May God bless you abundantly as you trust in Him and shine His light this year!

Blessings,
Alice xx

of facebook and cupcakes.

Well, I have news. Alice's Place is now on Facebook! Aye, Facebook. Ain't I modern?

Well, if you don't believe me, go and have a look (you could do me a favour and 'like' the page while you're at it!)! You'll even be able to have a peak at some gorgeous photos of Kitty in her bonnet!

Well? What do you think?

And also. Do you like cupcakes?

My Mum has recently returned to the blogging world and has been posting millions of photos of the billions of amazing cupcakes she's been making! Her blog is called Mama Bear's Kitchen and she'd love you to leave a comment or follow! *hint hint*

And.

Several friends and I - who all enjoy creative writing - have returned to Just So Stories. However, it is now called 'the Inklings' and has just experienced a mini makeover! Not to mention the captivating new stories, book reports and essays that have been posted. We'd love you to have a look! ;)

And also.
If you still have nothing better to do (heh heh), check out our spy blog, Elite Secret Force! It's very awesome.

Well, that is all for now, my friends. Thanks for visiting!

Blessings,
Alice xo

Over and Out.

P.s. What do you think of the new design?

The Edwardian Tea Gown

Last month a friend of mine turned 16 and had an Edwardian Garden party.
I've always (like, always) wanted to make an old fashioned dress so it was the perfect excuse to make a lacy Edwardian tea gown!
I looked around for a pattern for a while and finally settled with Sense & Sensibility's 1910's Tea Gown pattern, though I altered it to make it more like Katrina's gown on Edelweiss Patterns
The pattern was pretty straightforward and simple, though if I did it again I'd do the sleeves differently. (The sleeves and bodice were the same piece so it puckered and didn't really sit nicely). But apart from that, I had heaps of fun finally making an old-fashioned dress!
I bought the hat from Big W and tied a matching dusty-pink satin ribbon around it with a few fake flowers.
The pearl necklace and gloves I already had, and the lace shawl was a gift from a friend.
The party itself was lovely - out in the garden under the blossoming trees... everyone put a wonderful effort into their costumes and looked absolutely fabulous!
My dear friend Kenzie (in the red dress below) looked like she'd just stepped out of a book (simply smashingly gorgeous! She even looked like Diana Barry, in fact.) and India made her and Holly's skirts. Aye. They all looked lovely!
And so, my dream came true.
And we all lived happily ever after.

THE END

P.S. There are many more photos of the wonderful party here and here

Pinwheel Baby Quilt

My latest creation... a pinwheel baby quilt! Based on the tutorial found here.

Here in Australia we're enjoying the last day of Winter while still looking forward to Spring... the flowers and trees have just started blossoming and it's just so beautiful!

How I love Spring. :)

I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through making an Edwardian gown for a friend's 16th birthday party next month, so stay tuned for some photos! (That is, if the dress works :P).

What's your favourite part about Spring?

Blessings,

A Bright + Colourful Wall-hanging

Now this is kinda cheating, since I didn't actually make this wall-hanging. But it's so awesome that I just had to share it with y'all.
A friend made it as a birthday present for my Mum last (?) year, and after months of faithful stitching, finished it just a few days ago. Since then, it has been hanging proudly by our front door for all our visitors to admire upon entering the house. :)
(The wall-hanging was made to match our house which is very colourful-- there are no white walls.)

Pretty cute, hey?

What are your favourite colours?

Gabriel's Quilt

Howdy!
It has been a looong time since I last posted. Not because of a shortage of sewing, but because of a shortage of, well... time for blogging. Over the past month our family has had sickness to the full extent with about 5 trips to the hospital, 2 of my sisters admitted to hospital, coughs, colds, croup, bronchiolitis.... etc etc.
Ahh, winter! I do so love winter, but not exactly the sickness that comes with it. :P

This is Gabriel's quilt; made from 100% cotton Hooty-Hoot fabric for an adorable 12 week old dude called Gabriel. Love that name. :)
Must apologise for the quality of the photos; evidently they were rushed and the colour itself is quite horrific. One day, I hope, my photos will actually look normal *sniff*.
The quilt itself was a rather simple pattern, square-in-a-square, with a patchy sort of border.
I had to use my imagination for the backing because the piece I had set apart wasn't big enough.

What do you think??
